Woof Magazine is Northeastern University's leading lifestyle magazine. I joined their Design Board and was assigned an article about the Aaron Hernandez murders.

When I joined, since this had been my first time on the team, I was sent this to further explain what my role will be.

We were given a color palette to follow, and I gathered fonts I felt would work well together.

As a designer, I worked closely with a fellow student photographer who provided me with images to use on the spread

After some research about the topic and sorting through fonts, I worked on drafts for my template as well as my banner

The banner was displayed on the digital magazine as the cover image, which led you into the article.

After I sent my first drafts in, I was given feedback on what I had so far. Overall, they knew this was my first time doing work like this for a magazine, but they wanted to help me succeed, so they gave me some key pointers to help guide me.

These are the second drafts of the layout and the banner, which finally began to take shape.

When I spoke one-on-one with a designer who had more experience than me at Woof, we felt something was missing from the pieces. I knew what I wanted to do to add something more to the spreads:

Digitally drawing Aaron Hernandez added character and made the designs feel more lively. I created these drawings in InDesign, using color over an original photograph to correctly match the skin tones.
These are the third, and final drafts of my article spread and banner

Overall, I could say I learned a lot from working on a team with talented and knowledgeable designers. Even though looking back on what I created now and how much progress I have made in my graphic design skills, I remember that I was still a freshman with little experience in the design world. Being a part of this club allowed me to enhance my skills further while learning more about the "do's" and "dont's" of design.
